We Caught The Rarest Fish In North America!

We Caught The Rarest Fish In North America!

We challenged ourselves to catch the RAREST Fish in North America and we did it! Come along on the journey to see this amazing fish! It took a lot of 4-wheeling, creek crossings, hiking, and a little luck but we finally caught the ultra rare Golden Trout.

We found them in ultra clear water and were even able to shoot some underwater video of them in their natural habitat.

This is one adventure we won’t soon forget! We literally found ourselves on the PCT, also known as the Pacific Crest Trail , a trail that crosses the highest peaks in the Continental United States. If these fish were easy to reach it wouldn’t be a challenge!

This is one of my favorite videos you guys have ever done! Like you guys I grew up trout fishing in small streams and rivers in the upper Sierras. And man I miss it. I’ve only ever caught 1 Golden Trout before and it was during a back packing trip when I was a young teenager. Pretty sure it was also the only fish caught the whole trip out of the lake we packed in to. But awesome video thanks for sharing. Reminds me of older simpler times.

  2. Jimmy Large on April 10, 2020 at 5:20 pm

Ive caught a golden when we hiked up the wind river mountains in Wyoming! I think we were at 12,000 ft. We saw a pile of them but could only catch one. We were fly fishing. Never heard of anyone catching them on spinning gear.

  3. Al Cavagnet on April 10, 2020 at 5:23 pm

That’s bucket list stuff! Very cool

  4. Rudy Dorame on April 10, 2020 at 5:23 pm

Where is the sierras is this?

  5. Scott A on April 10, 2020 at 5:24 pm

That was a beautiful fucking fish….I would have ate it though

  6. James G on April 10, 2020 at 5:24 pm

Wonder how a flat fish would have done if you guys didnt already try lol

  7. Alex Garcia on April 10, 2020 at 5:25 pm

    Whats the location?

  8. 360 Fish Slayers on April 10, 2020 at 5:26 pm

Nope. Rarest is the Paiute Cutthroat trout, but man, what a pretty fish! Nice work nonetheless!🎣🐟🤙🤟

  9. Cayden Thompson on April 10, 2020 at 5:26 pm

    Golden trout aren’t rare

  10. PA Fly Guy on April 10, 2020 at 5:27 pm

Give fly fishing a try. I bet fly fishing for these small native trout would move more fish.

  11. Julz 5oh on April 10, 2020 at 5:29 pm

Beautiful Trout, they remind me of the Cutthroat Trout we have in New Mexico.

  12. Freddie Hankins on April 10, 2020 at 5:30 pm

I thought grayling’s are the rarest gamefish?

  13. Gary Perrine on April 10, 2020 at 5:30 pm

Nice contest. Teach us more on using spinning verses baitcaster. Thx

  14. Robert Clark on April 10, 2020 at 5:30 pm

Love this style/edit how the scenery is and over all a really relaxing and really enjoyable. Keep up the great content like always " keep stickin’um"

  15. fish'nwithrob on April 10, 2020 at 5:32 pm

I have heard of this place it’s the only 4×4 for golden in the state. I used to catch golden trout all the time down in the south seirras. brings back memories

  16. Moore fishing on April 10, 2020 at 5:33 pm

How did you guys find this spot

  17. Justin Parker on April 10, 2020 at 5:34 pm

We call them cutthroats in Colorado fish them at 11000 elevation roughly.

  18. Isaia Wright on April 10, 2020 at 5:37 pm

My state fish is a Garibaldi, not the Trout. And they can’t be that rare, I caught like plenty of them at a place called Fish Creek just above Kern River down here in SoCal. Took 9 Mile Canyon up and gained elevation like crazy from down by Inyokern.

  19. Andrew Ingram on April 10, 2020 at 5:39 pm

Not the rarest, do your homework.

  20. Woodrow Davis on April 10, 2020 at 5:39 pm

I’ve always wanted to catch golden trout. I have no idea where in the mountains they are where I live

  21. sgtpavlov on April 10, 2020 at 5:39 pm

Wow that’s a beautiful place! Great video! That kind of fishing looks like a job for BFS or Ultra light baitcasting gear. Something like a Shimano calcutta conquest BFS HG,and trout one rod, would be perfect.

  22. Mattie Tiger on April 10, 2020 at 5:39 pm

Amazing under water footage ! Amazing trip boys ! Thank you

  23. Dylan P on April 10, 2020 at 5:40 pm

If you want to catch a trout that is rarer than that’s than you should go try to catch the lahontan cutthroat trout

  24. michael poplin on April 10, 2020 at 5:40 pm

i’m watching this a year later. I do love seeing you guys get away from bass fishing and fish different things for the fun and experience of it.

  25. Erick Godina on April 10, 2020 at 5:41 pm

I literally go to golden trout wilderness and catch fifth a day, and that’s being modest. And I’m absolutely positive it’s illegal to fish for them with barbed hooks let alone treble hooks.

  26. Michael Wright on April 10, 2020 at 5:46 pm

I bet he would’ve tasted good

  27. rockcar13 on April 10, 2020 at 5:47 pm

Man my taurus could make it along those trails just fine

  28. chaz honaker on April 10, 2020 at 5:47 pm

What i wouldnt give to fish there..

  29. badboybootz8 on April 10, 2020 at 5:48 pm

    I love this video

  30. SofaKing's StupidFishing on April 10, 2020 at 5:48 pm

You probably would have had better luck if you used a longer leader or just ditched the bubble. It’s a pain to cast flies without a fly rod, but it’s possible. I do it all the time, because I’m too poor to afford a fly rod. I recently went to Lone Pine Lake, on Mt Whitney in search of brookies. I caught 3 cutthroats using a wooly bugger. The guy next to me had a legit fly rod, a hopper dropper rig with a size 22 prince nymph, but he didn’t catch anything. I think the difference was the line. A couple trout flashed on my fly, but saw my line and got spooked. It was 2 lb fluoro. The ones I caught never saw my line because I casted straight to them, keeping my line out of the water. The legit fly angler was dragging his line over the school, which were holding shallow.

  31. Julius Sebille on April 10, 2020 at 5:49 pm

    Music sucks ass

  32. Robert Payne on April 10, 2020 at 5:52 pm

Was that your footage? Cause if it was those fish looked like they were on their reds………. Your words "rarest trout in North America" ……. and you were fishing for them…….on their reds…..

  33. Vince on April 10, 2020 at 5:54 pm

Pretty cool the fish came back after being released. It was as though it was thanking you

  34. Dave Cassity on April 10, 2020 at 5:55 pm

In my personal opinion, best video yet! Sometimes just getting there is half the fun.

  35. Forrest Earnest on April 10, 2020 at 5:55 pm

Absolutely gorgeous scenery and beautiful rare fish. COngrats after that long drive and hike it seems to be well worth it. THanks for branching out and showing some multi-species angling outside of the AWESOME Bassin technique and big catches videos. The camera you use is phenomenal it feels like I am there with you with how clear it is. Great job once again Matt & Tim.

  39. jisterKIS on April 10, 2020 at 6:00 pm

Howd you find this place? Looks sick. Nice road to get to the first lake to

  40. Trevor Lee on April 10, 2020 at 6:03 pm

I could never live in California, because of its corrupt and tyrannical Government. But that doesn’t make it any less beautiful.

  41. Andrew O'Reilly on April 10, 2020 at 6:06 pm

I can’t offer you guys Golden Trout but my son and I would love to take you guys smallie fishing on Lake St Claire if you are ever in the area

  42. shltplease on April 10, 2020 at 6:06 pm
