On The Trail: Hiking Through Vermont On The Long Trail

On the Trail is a short documentary film about a journey across the state of Vermont on America’s first long distance hiking trail. The Long Trail runs North-South along the crest of Vermont’s Green Mountains and boasts some surprisingly rugged terrain. This film documents both the physical and emotional challenges faced by a mother and son as they undertake this 273-mile-long trek from Massachusetts to Canada.

Thru hiked in 1970. Was 16 and obsessed every day with food. Never experienced anything like that again – scraping the bottom of the pot each day for every last morsel. Enjoyed it though.

Clarendon Shelter looks so familiar. My buddy was having second thoughts about doing the trip, and this looks like where we were at the time – about 1/3 of the way through.
