I hiked it this summer and the shanty by the sea (Shoal Bay Inn) saved my moral after a miserable rainy day.

Having done most of the East Coast Trail and sections of it many times while picking blueberries and partridge berries I would recommend hiking in late Summer early Fall. The terrain is much drier, although it can rain at any time!! I avoid Spring because of the winter thaw. It can get quite muddy and the Streams and Rivers are at their highest! Just a suggestion!! Great video! Hope you enjoyed it despite the bad weather!

One of the BEST vids ever. NL Tourism should feature some of your hiking adventures. Well done, young men. Loved the closing " Ode To Newfoundland" anthem too.

Apart from the girls from Edmonton, did you meet a lot of other hikers on the trail? It seems quite empty!

  24. John March on April 21, 2022 at 7:02 pm

I remember meeting the two of you on the trail. Me, my brother and my two cousins we’re hiking the opposite direction. This was the best hike I’ve ever done and plan on hiking the trail again this summer.

Great trail video I enjoyed watching, the only negative for me was littering in the ocean, we need to be respecting the environment that we all enjoy, and protect the nature including the whales you enjoyed watching so much.

  30. phillyflicks on April 21, 2022 at 7:10 pm

That was a great video – thanks for sharing your trip. I’m thinking of hitting the trail this summer and out was really helpful to see what you experienced. I can only imagine how many hours you spent editing – impressive!

Awesome video! Really good start to see a bit of what to expect. I’m beginning to prepare some info on the ECT because I want to do at least a chunk of it (given ample time off work). It’s my first time planning a backpack trip and would be very much appreciated if I could get some tips and details on the trail for planning.

  40. FromThe Prairies on April 21, 2022 at 7:17 pm

I helped to cut the trail you walked on day 3 back in 1997. Pretty much in the same conditions you walked it in…except it took us 2 months to do it.
