Half Dome is on any hiker’s bucket list. It’s a great way to see and experience Yosemite National Park in California but beware.. it’s not an easy hike especially once you reach the half dome cables. Check out how we did when we attempted Half Dome for the first time. This was our first time to Yosemite and our first time attempting Half Dome. During our time in Yosemite we stayed at Half Dome Village in the tents. We give you hiking tips and advice to help you tackle your first hike up Half Dome. Be sure to check out yosemite falls even though we didn’t cover it in this travel guide.

I will never forget the day I hiked Half Dome. Yosemite changed my life…. sort of lol

  2. Gamini Wadhawan on April 16, 2020 at 4:24 pm

How did you manage without the cables? How did you k ow which side to start at?

  3. James Graham on April 16, 2020 at 4:25 pm

Well done guys! Great footage! I’m heading there in June 🙂

  4. Shakalaka Bombastic on April 16, 2020 at 4:25 pm

Awesome video! Reminds me of my experience up Half Dome last year w/ my wife. Videos are great but they do not do justice to the extreme amount of difficulty this hike can be. Wife and I started about 8am in the morning and got back about 8pm at night. Yes we even hiked back in the dark. Super scary! All types of snakes, scorpions and centipedes out every few feet away. Hands down the sub dome or hike up right before the cables (whatever it’s called) is sooooo scary and brutal. Probably worse than the cables imho. They both took 2 different types of skill and endurance.

  5. Blondie on April 16, 2020 at 4:29 pm

    Loved it! Very brave. Thrilling

  6. Lloyd Lifestone on April 16, 2020 at 4:29 pm

What a great little Summary and with interesting numbers of your achievement. I’d like to try that hike-climb, one day. Thank you & GOD bless

  7. Kelsey Armstrong on April 16, 2020 at 4:30 pm

I just finished the hike on Sept 20, 2018. I loved all your tips and they were truly helpful! The Mist Trail was not flowing heavily so no rain gear needed at that time but I was prepared regardless! I love following you guys and all tips were super helpful! We started at 0500 and definitely needed the layers. We used a water filter which was super helpful to not have a heavy pack!

  8. Allen Martin on April 16, 2020 at 4:30 pm

Very disappointed that no part of the cable climb was videoed. The rest of the trip was GREAT! I like your channel.

  9. John Tuttle on April 16, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Take a headlamp. Many epics happen when people get back later than expected.

  10. Connor Loupe on April 16, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Yess! So glad I found this channel, thanks for the great content, going to Yosemite in September!

Looks like so much fun. Thank you for sharing. My hunny and I are planning our first hiking trip ever. I’m so excited. I can’t wait

  12. A Najjar on April 16, 2020 at 4:35 pm

  13. Americas Parks on April 16, 2020 at 4:35 pm

Dude, so cool! Just came across your video. My daughter and I did this hike a little after you and your wife did in July. One of our best memories together! For fun, check out our Yosemite video – you’ll think I copied much of your stuff (but I promise I didn’t!) 🙂 So many similarities. Just subscribed to your channel!

  14. Anthony Sanchez on April 16, 2020 at 4:36 pm

Love your guys channel. I should be doing the Half Dome hike soon with one of my best friends from Miami. She is going to love it. She has never seen a waterfall nor trees like they have in Yosemite. Can’t wait for October to be here already. You have two more subscribers. You guys should do Angels Landing in Zion. Going to hit Zion in a couple of weeks.

  15. PrettyFeet27 on April 16, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Great video. It would be nice to see actual footage of the cable climb/hike though.

Great hike, but you kinda make it out to be a hard one in this video. The first time I went up I was 15 and brought two 13 year old girls. We did it in under 12 hours with no problems. lol. Just giving you a hard time…Great video! Keep it up 🙂

  22. Arjun Bhattacharya on April 16, 2020 at 4:47 pm

What month did you guys hiked?

  27. Ricky Flowers on April 16, 2020 at 4:57 pm

So, during your hike up Half Dome, you only took your 500 ml bottle up and refilled it at Nevada Falls?

  28. Adventures w/ Ash on April 16, 2020 at 4:58 pm

Awesome! Actually took this hike myself. Took us sun up to sun down lol. Also I was suffering from a lot of elevation sickness. Worth it!

  29. David Vestal on April 16, 2020 at 4:59 pm

We hiked Half Dome June 2018. OMG we totally loved Yosemite. Your video was very helpful. Thanks! You guys have great chemistry!

  30. Elizabeth Montoya on April 16, 2020 at 5:01 pm

Did you guys have to pay for a permit to climb up the half dome? And is it the same trail coming down as it is going up? Thanks!

  31. Taranau on April 16, 2020 at 5:02 pm

When Huell Howser did this, he spent the night, at a campground that’s an hour from The Cables. When I go, that’s how I’m doing it…

  32. Kate Goodyear on April 16, 2020 at 5:02 pm

I like the day hikes! Gotta be in good shape thoe!

  33. TY Nature on April 16, 2020 at 5:03 pm

Thank you for the great video! During what time/month of the year did you go?

  34. Jamie Nicho on April 16, 2020 at 5:03 pm

Half dome is a great hike but it is to crowded. There are some hikes that are equally as good if not better, north dome, clouds rest etc

  35. LL Adventures on April 16, 2020 at 5:03 pm

    @2:25 lol Nice.

  36. Andrew Bayliss on April 16, 2020 at 5:04 pm

Hey guys, it’s probably in the comments somewhere in here but what type of uv water filter did you guys buy? Awesome vid btw!

  37. Don's travels DON on April 16, 2020 at 5:05 pm

    Loved it. Well done.

  38. Rossi Chiang on April 16, 2020 at 5:05 pm

Where did you fill your water near Nevada Fall? I don’t recognize the location in your video, would you share it on the map? 😀
I usually fill my water in Little Yosemite Valley with my Sawyer filter.
I did my first hike in jeans and cotton tee and took 13 hours… terrible LOL. My second time was well prepared and much better.

  39. Mountain Man3 on April 16, 2020 at 5:05 pm

    starbucks is shit.

  40. Timothy Raths on April 16, 2020 at 5:06 pm

  41. Aras Limaj on April 16, 2020 at 5:07 pm

We need jackets in July or no?

You guys went in June and it was cold??

I’m visiting from London (UK) at the end of October. Gonna pack thermals.

  45. Connor Dodge on April 16, 2020 at 5:12 pm

    Great video you guys rock

  46. bobby shimoda on April 16, 2020 at 5:13 pm

I’ve hiked half dome 3 times and clouds rest 3 times. I highly recommend doing the clouds rest hike, it’s easy and less strenuous and it’s about a 1,000 ft higher than half dome and the views are absolutely stunning.

  47. 426 Biggie on April 16, 2020 at 5:15 pm

ill sub if you’re wife does some topless hiking.

  48. Gamini Wadhawan on April 16, 2020 at 5:18 pm

    Is that even walkable ??!!!!

  49. John Smith on April 16, 2020 at 5:20 pm

Just finished it last night! Bucket list climb. The cables are so much more vertical and precarious than YouTube makes them appear, you could seriously be injured or killed easily if your not wearing proper shoes, or someone uphill falls. I started my hike at noon (some lodging issues pushed back my
start time)and made it up by 4:30 pm but was RUNNING to be back before sundown. However that made the climb up the cables so much easier as there were only 2 other people summiting to pass. Made it down with a total of 8 hours round trip and it’s more like 18+ miles bec you park a mile away. If your going up bring hiking poles they will save your knees! Don’t wear tennis shoes as you need grip on the granite domes. Also 3-5 liters of h20 with some of that being Gatorade for sugar/electrolytes. Also back headlamps bec if something happens, you go slower than planned or twist an ankle you’ll need it coming down the stairs to Mordor…I mean Nevada and vernal falls. Plus in the evening there’s tree cover so it gets shady and that’s not something you want to be guessing for placement on slippery rocks without light.

Anyways thanks for the video content it really inspired me few months back to be prepared for this epic hike and it’s so awesome I got to join you guys and complete it!
