Todd captures Oregon’s south central high country for some spring creek action on the Yamsi Ranch. The Yamsi Ranch is a third-generation working cattle ranch located at the headwaters of the Williamson River near Chiloquin, Oregon. John Hyde works on the family owned cattle ranch, and he guides anglers on the brook and rainbow trout-filled headwaters of the Williamson River. This video captures Hyde’s unique lifestyle here, off the grid and running on solar power and personal generators. This area is one of the most beautiful and special places I’ve been able to film, and I was lucky to catch a brilliant sunset that quickly became one of many highlights of my trip. Thanks so much to John Hyde and his family for sharing the waters with me and my camera. http://www.yamsiflyfishing.com

For this feature I was incredibly lucky to get in touch with the Portland, Oregon based musician Tony Furtado. Special thanks to him for the amazing sounds that he creates and for the tracks featured off of his latest album “The Bell”. Thats exactly right! Catching Fish is a highlight, but not as important as just being on the water…. But, it sure is nice when you Slay! 🙂

…never felt like I got it and knew no one around who fly fished so it’s been leaning in the corner where my other rods hang for a bit…THIS video just motivated me to pick up and try again!

Many wonderful comments about this video. It’s obvious these guys most importantly wanted to share the beauty of being out on the water, and catching trout was a nice bonus. Parked this one in my “favorites” folder for fly fishing!

  35. Steve Grooms on March 17, 2020 at 4:20 pm

This is one of the best videos of any sort I’ve seen. Moen does many things well here: good commentary, excellent photography (especially closeup stuff), good music, refreshing variety in filming . . . all good. I like the combination of different perspectives in a visual stream that isn’t frenetic, yet it sustains interest.

  36. Raymond Fryar on March 17, 2020 at 4:21 pm

Absolutely beautiful and great video. Would give any thing to fish there.

Nice trip down memory lane! A couple decades ago I literally wrote the book on managing this watershed for the feds. There is a great Hex hatch here as well. The Williamson watershed taught me to design fishing habitat like no other. I am very grateful to this place.
