Camp Chicago – The Ultimate Downtown RV Camping

If you’re looking for an RV Park or Campground in Chicago you don’t have many choices…

It may not be a beautiful location but it’s the best option if you want to park an RV near downtown Chicago, IL. We had a great experience in town, at Lolla and at the McCormick Place Marshaling Yard.

Camping in Chicago? Bring a gun to shoot back at the crack heads

  2. Michael Cohen on March 31, 2020 at 3:32 pm

Sorry to see some less than well informed comments about crime in Chicago. The downtown and other tourist areas have very low crime rates for a big city. The murders that you hear about are between gangs in parts of the city you won’t be anywhere near. Downtown, Wrigley Field, the museums, lakefront etc are very safe.

Parking lot down town Chicago, one of the highest crime rates in the country.  Does not fit my idea of safe, in a gun free zone called Illinois, no thanks.

Clearly, they’ve cloned themselves, and a little bit of, I suspect, magic. More places, more often, more beer. Pretty smart!

Thanks for letting me learn from your experiences. While camping at Circus Circus in Vegas, I wondered why it was better than a Walmart and came to the conclusion that, I had hook-ups at Circus Circus but had to pay for them… pretty much a toss-up. However, you guys have clearly shown that a Walmart is better than this spot. Thanks 🙂

The first think I look for when I get to Chicago is the quickest road that leads me the hell out of Chicago.

  28. Maxid1 on March 31, 2020 at 3:56 pm

$30 bucks to dry camp in a parking lot? So there is a place less RV friendly than San Francisco.(I think San Jose may be less friendly than San Francisco but then I know SF better than SJ.

Can’t tell you how happy I am to find your video! We just bought an RV and will be doing some touring in the next couple of months. We lived in Chicago for 7 years and I’m anxious to get back to visit in the RV!

I was in Chicago once back in 1967 during a massive snow storm and I felt lucky to get out of there.  I say Chicago covered in snow and the only way in or out was by train so naturally I came in on one train and had to switch train stations to get out again. Boy I don’t ever want to do that again.  If I ever see Chicago again it will have to be in July.  Glad you two had a good visit.  Now where will your next adventure take you?

  33. Jack Brown on March 31, 2020 at 4:04 pm

What about the Walmarts in Chicago? There are several Walmart Supercenters in Chicago. They have very large parking lots. Don’t they let you overnight for free in their parking lots?

    Have fun in Alaska.

  34. Tony L on March 31, 2020 at 4:05 pm

next time you want to go to chicago you could find a campground closer to the metra train and just go into chicago that way for example there is a campground with hook ups just west of elgin il…..Paul Wolff Campground
38W235 Big Timber Road, Elgin, Illinois
    (630) 444-1200……..rates are 25 a night for non residents ….. and its about 1/4 mile walk west of the big timber metra train station which you can take the train to union station which is right by the willis tower formerly knows as sears tower … so being that you have a car with you just drive car to the train station at ..Big Timber Road Station
    2025 Big Timber Rd.
Elgin IL 60123 …its just a thought ..if you ever come back to the chicago area …i just figured id let you know so you could have a better place to camp also if you wanted to take i-90 is also located right there if you wanted to drive to chicago as well

Awesome, I hope they keep this policy, we are still part timers at the moment but was just talking yesterday that we would like to start our full timing touring route 66 and since it starts in Chicago, that would be awesome.

    Hola amigos Wynns,
Great videos and my wife and I enjoy them very much. Thank you for all great info. Still trying to find out if you like better Gas or Diesel RV. Be safe on the road!!

  38. rshotrod1965 on March 31, 2020 at 4:08 pm

LOL… Now that I hope everyone knows that this was filmed in 2014 and not the present, I just want to say that you 2 don’t seem very happy and cheerful in this video like you normally do in your other video’s. Did it have something to do with boondocking in Chicago or Chicago itself?

  39. Charles Ramsey on March 31, 2020 at 4:10 pm

    Good to know! Great information!

  40. IMdany on March 31, 2020 at 4:11 pm

So you are saying that you can sleep in your trailer in that parking lot at night and it is safe, right?

  41. Happy Hobo's on March 31, 2020 at 4:14 pm

Love how you are trying to maintain professionalism and composure with all the noise interruptions   LOL   Hope you are enjoying Alaska this summer!

Hi Wynns.  Just curious.  Did you do a time lapse or something to go from Alaska to Chicago in a week?  I’m just new to "time travel" and you made me very curious.  Btw…like the new hair color.  🙂
